Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment discussed plans to improve agricultural productivity with COMESA

H.E. Ms. Chileshe Kapwepwe, Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) paid a courtesy visit on Minister Flavien Joubert, at the Secretariat Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Le Chantier Mall last Tuesday 31st August 2021.

The main objective of the visit was to establish the different avenues of cooperation between the Ministry and COMESA, especially with the Industry and Agriculture Division of COMESA.

Both parties agreed that cooperation and regional integration within COMESA should further be consolidated, in order to be able to achieve sustainable economic progress in the fields of agricultural development and trade, especially during this challenging time of the COVID pandemic.

They further discussed possibilities to support and strengthen agricultural productivity, agro processing, improving food security in the Seychelles, as well as the promotion and support of compliance with regional standards and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures for increased access to competitive markets and trade facilitation in the region.

Minister Joubert was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Agriculture, Mr Keven Nancy and the Chief Executive Officer for Agriculture Ms Linetta Joubert.
