SNPA Launch online payment system for entry tickets

The Seychelles National Park Authority has been managing the marine and terrestrial National park for more than 40 years. As from Monday 3rd May 2021, visitors and clients visiting SNPA’s marine park will be able to purchase their entry tickets online. In a brief ceremony at Eden Bleu yesterday the official online ticketing system was launched in the presence of Minister for Agriculture, Climate change and Environment Mr. Flavien Joubert, Minister for Finance, Mr. Naddy Hassan and the Governor Of the Central Bank of Seychelles, Miss Carolina Belle, alongside CEO of SNPA, Mr. Selby Remy with other partners and invited guest.

In his opening address the CEO of SNPA, Mr. Selby Remy highlighted the importance of this system; increase efficiency and cut down on staff handling cash; cutting cost on printing and reducing carbon footprint; most importantly with Covid-19 pandemic this system will have less contacts between staff and visitors.

“As we move ahead SNPA will continue to make use of technology to improve its efficiency. In the coming months we will start using drones to assist us with surveillance and patrol for example. This will help us cut down on the cost of fuel not only benefiting our budget but also the environment.”

Mr. Remy officially launched the online payment system together with a representative from Praslin Business Association and the Manager of Marine Operation at SNPA to instruct how the online marine park tickets operates.

In his closing statements the Minister of Finance Mr. Naddy Hassan, commended SNPA for this transition and encouraged all entities to adopt this practice as a lot of emphasis is being put on accountability and transparency.

“The online payment system the SNPA is adopting will ensure also accountability in revenue collection as staff will no longer be handling cash. This means the entity will no longer be recruiting more staff and introducing additional security just for monitoring and supervising the handling of cash and its banking.

As I have said in my Budget Speech in February, the Government is moving towards a digitalize economy and we have to set the example by encouraging all MDAs to adopt digital payment system.”

This project is funded by the GOS-GEF-UNDP Protected Area Finance Project and the SNPA.
